The first step in reclaiming your charges, is to find out what charges have been applied to your account and make a list of these.

If you have retained all of your bank statements, the information will be included in them.

If you have Internet Banking, you can search through your statements online. (Beware, your internet banking may only provide details of recent transactions.)

If the above options, do not provide you with a full list of charges, don't worry, your bank have a duty to provide the information to you under The Data Protection Act. This is known as a Subject Access Request.

You can follow the links in the "List of Charges" menu, to display details for each method of obtaining your charge details.

Once you have the charge details, you can download our simple spreadsheet to list them, ready to write to the bank requesting you refund. The Spreadsheet is in the new menu on the right...

Frequently Asked Questions

1) How far back can I claim?

You can claim back 6 years of charges from the date you commence your claim with the bank.

The Limitations Act will prohibit claiming back further than this unless you can successfully argue, that the payments were made under a mistake, or that the bank concealed your right of action.

If you wish to claim back charges older than 6 years, you should seek additional assistance in the Community Forum, as an advanced claim.
